Why Be Stressed Out!

Copyright (c) 2009 Mind Body Spirit Central, LLC

No matter where you live in the world, there is plenty to get stressed out about. For example, the Nikkei, DAX, FTSE and Dow have constantly been like a roller-coaster ride. One day the markets are up. The next day it’s crash and burn time. People are unemployed in record amounts. Others are afraid to do anything in the event that they may be next in the unemployment line. In the U.S. there happens to be another source of stress – tax time! Yes, the April 15th deadline is fast approaching.

And, don’t forget about the everyday stresses like your career, taking care of yourself and your family and even your commute to work! Yes, even that “honk honkin’, finger flippin’ road rager” causes you to be stressed out.

The problem is that stress can and does negatively affect your health – both mentally and physically. Studies have proven that stress leads to:

1) Emotional issues, such as a lack of concentration and substance abuse, relationship issues, needless arguments and domestic violence,

2) Studies are showing that stress also causes unwanted weight gain. With obesity approaching epidemic numbers in many countries, who needs the extra pounds,

3) Plus, there’s the physical symptoms such as high-blood pressure, back pain and sleep disorders!

In fact, according to recent estimates by the American Heart Association, nearly 1 in 3 adults have high blood pressure (hypertension). Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure or kidney failure. Doctors recommend weight loss and regular exercise as the first steps in treating mild to moderate hypertension. But, perhaps you do not want to join a gym or work up a sweat. Or you have physical limitations that prevent vigorous exercise. Or, you have just slowed down as you got older.

Here’s my “secret” stress buster that I will share with you – Qigong.

Qigong is thousands of years old and involves the coordination of different breathing patterns with various physical postures and motions of the body. Qi means breath or gas in Mandarin Chinese and is the energy produced by breathing that keeps us alive; gong means work or technique. Qigong is then the “breath work” or the art of managing the breath to achieve and maintain good health and to enhance the energy mobilization and stamina of the body in coordination with the physical process of respiration. The gentle, graceful movements of Qigong and meditation, combined with controlled breathing exercises make it an ideal fitness program to improve men’s health, women’s health and children of all ages – they’re even great exercises for senior citizens. As humans, our Qi energy is at its peak in our late teen years, 18-20. As we become older, we lose a little of our energy. It is only through continued practice of Qigong that you can increase your Qi energy and vitality to build physical and mental strength, help fortify your immune system, relieve stress and speed recovery from injury for a longer, healthier life.

Qigong For Stress Relief relaxes your mind and body to release your stress, improve and calm breathing, strengthens your internal organs and can help to lower your blood pressure. Evidence suggests that reducing your blood pressure by just 5-6 points can:

1) Decrease the risk of stroke by 40%,

2) Decrease the risk of coronary heart disease by 15-20%, and

3) Reduce the likelihood of dementia, heart failure, and mortality from vascular disease.

Ask yourself these questions…Are you overweight? Do you exercise at all? Are you currently on drug therapy to bring your blood pressure down to a safe level? Is your boss and lifestyle driving you crazy?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then Qigong for Stress Relief is for you!

After completing a “cleansing breath” warm-up exercise, you’ll practice the incredible “Stress Relief Qigong” exercise that will help to control, lower and maintain a healthy and stress free level. As you do the exercises you will enter a state of calmness and serenity. In addition the soothing, yet very effective movements in the “Stress Relief Qigong” exercise will help your flexibility, remove pain, gently loosen your joints and also improve your balance and equilibrium. Your body will move in all directions — lightly moving up, down, pushing, pulling, turning and twisting — on the way to better health, fitness and wellness.

Next, you’ll move on to the section “Breathing Exercises” to further reduce your stress, letting your tension melt away.

And to wrap it all up, further relax with the “Meditation” exercise. Meditation is one of the keys to relieving stress, and to increase your ability to focus on your plans and thoughts for success and improve your overall health and well being.

Living a stress-free life is critical to your overall health and well being. Experience the power of Qigong.

Qigong: Essence of the Healing Dance will show you that you carry within yourself the ability to heal. Learn to tap into this innate gift and dance your own dance of life. You are sure to find this book fascinating, even life changing. A must-read for anyone intrigued by the mystique of ancient Eastern healing arts or seeking a daily practice that promotes and maintains full-body well-being. Qigong (pronounced chee-gong ) is an ancient Chinese health-care modality that has fascinated people throughout the millennia. Based on the fundamental principles of traditional Chinese medicine, Qigong is a system that teaches us to understand Qi, our bioelectric life force, and use it to heal ourselves and others. Qigong: Essence of the Healing Dance will show you some of the basics of the outward exercises that are normally associated with the practice of Qigong, as well as detailing movements from such systems as Wuji Qigong, Bagua Xun Dao Gong and Shaolin Qigong. More than merely outlining these practices, this book will take you on a journey of exploration into the essence of this fascinating, though little understood, healing practice. Masters from around the world-such as the ninety-two-year-old Duan Zhi Liang of Beijing, Canadian healer Effie Poy Yew Chow and American Jerry Johnson-contribute their personal insights into the wonders of Qigong. People from various walks of life, all of whom have achieved healing as a result of practicing Qigong, share their powerful experiences. Author Garri Garripoli, himself a practitioner of Qigong for the past twenty years, renders the book fascinating and easy-to-read. He expertly guides you on this once-in-a-lifetime journey, inspiring you to look deeper into healing in order to discover how to move beyond the standards and limitations of Western medicine.

The Way of Qigong

The Way of Qigong

$11.98

Qigong, which literally means "working with the energy of life," is an integrated mind-body healing method that has been practiced with remarkable results in China for thousands of years. The Chinese have long treasured qigong for its effectiveness both in healing and in preventing disease, and more recently they have used it in conjunction with modern medicine to cure cancer, immune system disorders, and other life-threatening conditions. Now in this fascinating, comprehensive volume, renowned qigong master and China scholar Kennneth S, Cohen brings the ancient healing power of qigong to Western readers. The essence of qigong can be understood by comparing the body to a battery: stress and bad health habits act to dissipate the battery’s charge, its "qi," while self-care and self-awareness help to maintain and improve qi. Qigong is a gentle yet rigorous program for working with our life energy through breathing and relaxation exercises, massage, visualization, meditation, and other natural methods. Using qigong, each one of us can learn to improve health and enhance vitality by cleansing, gathering, releasing, and circulating qi so that it reaches all the body’s cells. It’s rather like acupuncture without needles–it’s pleasurable to do, it costs nothing, and it’s wonderfully life-enhancing.This accessible, beautifully written book provides a step-by-step program detailing how we can all integrate qigong into our busy lives. Ken Cohen explores every aspect of this Chinese healing art and science. The benefits of qigong are obvious in those who practice it correctly–these exuberant individuals sleep more soundly, their skin glows with vitality, they feel increased strength and heightened sexuality, and their minds and bodies achieve the harmony of true health. These benefits have been analyzed and calibrated by contemporary medical researchers who confirm resoundingly that qigong really does work. As a result, leading medical schools around the country are now incorporating qigong into "complementary medicine" programs that combine the wisdom of alternative medical modalities with the technological expertise of modern medicine. Now with The Way of Qigong, the power and clarity of qigong is finally available to all of us. This is truly a volume that will enlighten, instruct, enliven, and delight all who use it.

Medical Qigong Exercise Prescriptions

Medical Qigong Exercise Prescriptions

$10.48

Medical qigong is one of the four main branches of Chinese medicine, and it is the energetic foundation upon which the others (acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medical massage) are based. Medical qigong and tai chi exercises are becoming more popular, but there are few books that discuss how they can be used to help address specific disorders. This book is the first medical qigong book that does not simply introduce a set of exercises that are a part of a general qigong routine. Rather, the exercises provided are those prescribed to patients at qigong hospitals in China. Medical qigong doctors and Chinese medicine hospitals have used these exercises for hundreds of years and yet they are relatively unknown in this country. The first half of the book introduces medical qigong theory from a modern Western scientific perspective as well as from the traditional Daoist and Chinese medicine perspectives, so that the reader will understand why and how medical qigong exercises work. The second half is practical exercises for self-healing. The book introduces guidelines for selecting appropriate exercises, and then the exercises themselves. There are general tonification (strengthening), purgation (sedating), and regulation exercises for health maintenance, followed by sections on specific organ and health disorders. This book targets health care practitioners as well as "patients," meaning anyone interested in taking an active role in the healing process.

Qigong Fever

Qigong Fever

$41.98

Qigong& mdash;a regimen of body, breath, and mental training exercises& mdash;was one of the most widespread cultural and religious movements of late-twentieth-century urban China. The practice was promoted by senior Communist Party leaders as a uniquely Chinese healing tradition and as a harbinger of a new scientific revolution, yet the movement’s mass popularity and the almost religious devotion of its followers led to its ruthless suppression. In this absorbing and revealing book, David A. Palmer relies on a combination of historical, anthropological, and sociological perspectives to describe the spread of the qigong craze and its reflection of key trends that have shaped China since 1949, including the search for a national identity and an emphasis on the absolute authority of science. Qigong offered the promise of an all-powerful technology of the body rooted in the mysteries of Chinese culture. However, after 1995 the scientific underpinnings of qigong came under attack, its leaders were denounced as charlatans, and its networks of followers, notably Falungong, were suppressed as "evil cults."According to Palmer, the success of the movement proves that a hugely important religious dimension not only survived under the CCP but was actively fostered, if not created, by high-ranking party members. Tracing the complex relationships among the masters, officials, scientists, practitioners, and ideologues involved in qigong, Palmer opens a fascinating window on the transformation of Chinese tradition as it evolved along with the Chinese state. As he brilliantly demonstrates, the rise and collapse of the qigong movement is key to understanding the politics and culture of post-Mao society.

The Yijing Medical Qigong System

The Yijing Medical Qigong System

$18.48

Yijing (I-Ching) theory is the foundation of Daoism and Chinese medicine, and this book explores the deep roots that they both share. Daoism and Chinese medicine both view the human body as a microcosm of the universe around us; what is happening outside affects us inside. Medical qigong is based on the premise that we can energetically affect something outside based on our intention inside. Much of medical qigong, one of the main branches of Chinese medicine, originates from the practices of Daoist shamanic healers. This book introduces a Chinese medicine healing system based on the principles of the Yijing that serve as the foundation of medical qigong and Daoist spiritual practices. The Yijing Medical Qigong System is a compilation of self-healing exercises and qi emission therapeutic treatment techniques based on Daoist medical qigong and Yijing theories. This system’s approach is unique in that it focuses on the meanings of the trigrams rather than the hexagrams of the Yijing. The eight trigrams are used in innovative ways for healing the body, mind, and spirit. The Yijing Medical Qigong System is based on the premise that the Yijing theory that infuses Chinese medicine and Daoism is just as relevant today for healing and spiritual guidance it was three thousand years ago.
