How to Practice Qigong Exercises : What is Dantian in Qigong?

Qigong Therapy for Nocturnal Emission, Hemorrhoids and Incontinence of Urine

In the aged with a weak constitution, spermatorrhoea, hemorrhoids, anal fistula, incontinence of urine is common. In yotang men, habitual masturbation may lead to frequent nocturnal emission, impairing both physical and mental health. The following type of qigong therapy-elevation of the perineum – is effective for treating these diseases.

Perineum is the area between the anus and the genital organs. Perineum elevation refers to the gentle elevation of qi that puts the anus, urethra and the musculature of this area in a state of contraction as if to restrain with effort the discharge of stools and urine. The purpose of elevating the perineum is to lead the qi by will, and establish communication between the qi inhaled and the qi elevated to notify the kidneys and arrest spontaneous emission. From the modern medical point of view, elevating the perineum consistently and consciously improves the blood circulation and nutritional state of the Perinea tissue, accentuating the dilating, contracting and restraining functions of the anal sphincter, vesicle sphincter and musculature of the sex organs. That is why this therapy is useful for nocturnal emission, spermatorrhoea, impotence, premature ejaculation, hemorrhoids, anal fistula, and prolepses of the rectum and incontinence of urine.

This kind of qigong therapy has four forms.

I. Supine form
    1. Lie straight supine on a high pillow. Extend the legs and place the feet together. Place the arms and hands along sides of the body naturally.
    2. Let the tip of the tongue touch the palate. Gently close the eyes and the mouth. Concentrate on Dantian (3 cun below the umbilicus) and empty the mind of all distractions. After saliva begins flowing in the mouth, inhale through the nose and, leading the qi by will, gently elevate the perineum. At the same time, grit the teeth while clenching fists, flexing the toes forward and downward with force and holding the breath for 3-5 seconds. Then gently take the tongue away from the palate, exhaling slowly through the nose and relaxing the whole body naturally.
    3. Let the tongue touch the palate again and repeat the actions as described above. Practise for 5-10 minutes each time, three times a day (in the morning, at noon and in the evening).
The supine form of perineum elevation is effective for nocturnal emission, spermatorrhoea, impotence, premature ejaculation and incontinence of urine.

II. Strolling form
    1. Walk unhurriedly in a leisurely way. Close the mouth gently with the tongue touching the palate and the teeth slightly gritted. Concentrate on Dantian and empty the mind of all distractions.
    2. Drop the hands down naturally with the fingers slightly flexed in opposition to the thumb, thus forming hollow fists. Also slightly flex the toes, as if to grip the ground. Then walk slowly and gently elevate the perineum?and incontinence of urine.

III. Standing form
    1. Stand with the legs apart and feet parallel but spaced at shoulder’s width. Grip the ground with the toes, bend the knees slightly, and relax the waist and hips, keep the upper torso upright and assume a somewhat squatting position.
    2. Tuck the chin in lightly, relax the chest and drop the arms naturally with the fingers slightly bent in opposition to the thumb to form hollow fists.
    3. Drop the upper eyelids, slightly shut the mouth and gargle with saliva three to five times. Lick the palate and mandible with the tongue and touch the palate with the tip of the tongue until the month is full of saliva. Swallow the saliva and touch the palate again with the tongue, followed by inhaling through the nose. Meanwhile, gently elevate the perineum, leading the qi upwards by will along the midline of the back to the vertex, and then to under the tongue. Finally, exhale slowly accompanied by relaxation of the perineum. Repeat the above-mentioned actions for more than twenty times, and then press on Dantian with the hands overlapping (the left hand below the right hand). Concentrate On Dantian for a while, and then take an unhurried walk for thirty to fifty steps.
This form can be practiced twice a day (in the morning and in the evening) and is effective for the prevention and treatment of the above-mentioned diseases.

IV. Sitting form
Sit on a chair or a bench with the thighs horizontal and the upper torso upright. Clench half fists and place them on the thighs just above the knees. Drop the eyelids and slightly close the mouth. Let the tongue touch the palate. Then perform the same actions as for the standing form. After the practice, stand up and take a walk at a slow pace for thirty to fifty steps.
This form should also be practised twice a day (in the morning and in the evening) and sometimes with an additional practice at noon. It is also effective for the above-mentioned diseases.
