Spabeautyschools.com Featured School of the Week August 5, 2007: Acupuncture and Massage College
Now that you’ve decided to pursue a career in the healing arts, the next step is to find the appropriate school to meet your educational needs. Depending on your particular field of interest, the Acupuncture and Massage College (AMC) situated in beautiful Miami, Florida, may just have what you’re seeking. Whether you entertain the idea of becoming a professional massage therapist or are more intrigued by Oriental medicine, you can enroll in these and other related programs at the Acupuncture and Massage College.
In the Oriental Medicine program* at AMC, students participate in an in-depth course of study, which is spread over four academic years, but may be completed in as little as 36 months. Meeting all educational requirements of the State of Florida and the NCCAOM (National Commission for Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine), the Oriental Medicine program combines essential training and education in anatomy, biology, biochemistry, herbal medicine, pharmacology, physiology, medical terminology, diagnostic methods and systems in relation to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), and clinical practice with comprehensive theories of TCM, acupuncture and needling techniques (as well as point locations), homeopathy, Western science, Qi Kung (Qigong), Tuina and other Chinese medicine modalities. (*Applicants who wish to enter the Oriental Medicine program at AMC must meet certain eligibility requirements, which include: 60 college credits from an accredited institution, competency in the English language, and applicants must be a U.S. resident and a minimum of 21 years of age.)
The seven-month massage therapy program at Acupuncture and Massage College offers an in-depth and practical training curriculum in a wide assortment of massage modalities as well as fundamental education in ethics, musculoskeletal anatomy, pathology, physiology, and legal issues surrounding the practice. In addition, students gain hands-on training in aromatherapy, cranial-sacral therapy, Swedish massage, medical massage, Shiatsu, Qi Kung, and hydrotherapy.
AMC also extends 150-hour certification courses in Shiatsu and Tuina. This 4-6 week training program is offered to licensed massage therapists who wish to enhance their skills, and be able to provide these supplemental services to both patients and clients alike.
If martial arts and yoga are appealing to you, then AMC offers a combined 600-hour certification course, which involves training in Taoist philosophy and meditation techniques, Hatha Yoga, Tai Chi, Chinese Qi Kung exercises, and anatomy and physiology. Upon acceptance, students can complete this certification program in one year’s time.
As part of its commitment to making educational programs affordable to applicants, AMC participates in the Federal PELL Grant program, in addition to other financial aid programs to students who qualify.
Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) as a degree-granting institution and the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), AMC is also recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (with regard to acupuncture and Oriental medicine programs) and is licensed by the Florida Commission for Independent Education.
If you’re ready to take the next step to realizing your professional dreams of becoming a certified massage therapist or Oriental medicine practitioner, then advance to Acupuncture and Massage College and attain the education you need to achieve the career success you deserve.

Hidden Qi: The Mystery of Chinese Kung Fu $12.29 Witness the extreme feats of men who have transcended their perceived physical limitations by harnessing their Qi through the ancient art of Qigong in a fascinating documentary that aims to be as entertaining as it is educational. A word that translates into English as “breath” or ‘air,” “Qi” represents the energy that exists in all human beings. Though rigid self discipline and lifelong practice, Qigong practitioners are said to not only increase health and lifespan, but endure blows that may prove deadly to the unconditioned person. With numerous demonstrations highlighting the seemingly super-human powers bestowed upon Qigong practitioners, this release offers compelling evidence that the flesh may not be as fragile as we are often led to believe. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

Shaolin Qi Gong $41.8 The great teacher Bodhidharma is credited with the creation of Shaolin Temple qi gong and kung fu in the 6th century CE. Motivated by the terrible physical condition of the monks who spent all their time meditating or copying scrolls, his two-part system promoted physical as well as spiritual fitness and became the basis for all the martial and meditative arts taught in the Shaolin Temple. These ancient practices increase physical health and vitality, enhance creativity, and can be practiced well into old age.Author Shi Xinggui, a Shaolin monk, explains the fundamental principle of qi gong–the art of mastering energy (qi) and moving it through the body–and provides clear demonstrations of all the positions and movements. In order to develop qi attentively, it is necessary to cultivate the art of slowness in both movement and breathwork. Shi Xinggui provides both a short form and a long form of the daily exercises, with lessons on heart centering, organ strengthening, and balancing the energy using the three dantians–the three energy centers of the body. |

Kung Fu Panda 2 $15.27 Co-composed by Hanz Zimmer and John Powell, both of whom helmed the first installment of the immensely popular Dreamworks animation series, the score for Kung Fu Panda 2 dutifully expands on the motifs that the pair introduced in the inaugural film. Zimmer, who traveled to China in 2007 to absorb the country’s rich musical history, adds more regional flare to the orchestral score this time around, but listeners who enjoyed the initial blend of swashbuckling, martial arts-inspired adventure themes and lush, pastoral interludes won’t come away disappointed, as the two styles are well represented here. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi Performers: Hua Qi – Erhu; Michael Baker – Tympani [Timpani]; Anthony Pleeth – Cello; Metro Voices – Choir, Chorus; Michael Hobe – Sampling; Sam Estes – Sampling; Bill Lockhart – Percussion; Frank Ricotti – Percussion; Gary Kettel – Percussion; Ian Thomas – Percussion; Paul Clarvis – Percussion; Stephen Henderson – Percussion |
